Business Rates Officer *Pay rate is negotiable**Hertfordshire*A local authority based in Hertfordshire is looking for a highly suitable candidate to work as part of the Council Tax Recovery & Business Rates team dealing with all aspects relating to the administration and collection of National Non Domestic Rates. Responsibilities: * Deal with enquiries from the public regarding all aspects of National Non Domestic Rating, being aware of the appropriate NNDR regulations and section procedures. * To be familiar with and keep own knowledge up to date regarding Business Rates legislation, process, procedures and policies and be prepared to explain its effects to customers and colleagues accurately and concisely. * To administer and process all types of Business Rates billing and recovery functions, within agreed targets, including the negotiation of payment arrangements and the monitoring of subsequent recovery. * Action information provided by NNDR rate payers, by telephone, letter e-mail or in person regarding changes to NNDR accounts. * Identify and monitor premises for rating, updating the council's databases and inform the Valuation Office of changes to enable their records to be kept up to date, querying and challenging when and where appropriate.Requirements: * Experience in Council Tax and National Non Domestic Rating administration. * Able to effectively liaise with customers, colleagues, outside bodies and Councillors, in writing, by telephone and face to face whilst maintaining confidentiality. * Able to work under pressure. * Able to communicate complicated legislation in a straightforward manner. * Able to deal with challenging customers.
